When the student is ready the teacher appears…

LFSL-500x5001

Would you like to have more joy and less stress in your life? Do you want to discover the secrets to reaching your full potential? Would you like to make a positive difference in the short time you’re here on this earth?

Life coach, Betty Mahalik, tells you how in her beautiful book, Living a Five Star Life. She challenges all of us “to live a great life by discovering the life we have right now, instead of trying to invent a whole new life.” This little book has more wisdom, common sense and inspiration than any I’ve read in a long time!

Today, I’d like to share her chapter titled: My Life Would be Perfect If…”

Enjoy!☺

Excerpt from: Living a Five Star Life,
by Betty Mahalik

In this day and age, we are surrounded by messages that virtually scream, “Your life would be perfect if…” My life would be perfect if I had a different job, a different house, car, nose, spouse, bank account (fill in the blank). Or my life would be perfect if I could be like some celebrity whose life appears so well-ordered and perfect-o. This week I encourage you to stop playing “my life would be perfect if,” and start playing “my perfect life.” What’s the difference? Three things: being in the present, an attitude of gratitude, taking action with what’s available now.

When we’re caught up in the “my life would be perfect if” trap, we’ve lost touch with the present. And the moment we detach from the present, we can no longer practice gratitude. Think about it: it’s difficult to be grateful for what you don’t have…and what you don’t have is always somewhere out in future-ville.

Look around you right now. Think of 10 things you’re grateful for. Do you have a roof over your head and food to eat? I’m guessing the answer is yes. Do you have at least a few good friends or close relationships? Then appreciate them too, right now. Keep going, and practice being in the present and being grateful for what is here and now at least a couple times a day.

You’re also probably sitting there thinking “yes but.” Yes, but I want more money, a better relationship, more time to travel, to be thinner, happier or whatever. It’s one of the great mysteries I’ll never figure out. The minute you stop focusing on what you lack, start focusing on what you’ve already got, and add the “magic” ingredient of action, you actually begin to attract more of what you want. It’s an amazing formula for really living your perfect life!

Let’s say you want to lose weight or get in better shape, but you don’t have an hour a day to spend exercising at the gym. Therefore, you’ve pretty well resigned yourself to not losing weight or getting in shape. What if you had five minutes though…just about everyone can find five minutes to exercise, stretch, walk around the block or walk the dog. Would you be willing to be grateful for five minutes and make the best possible use of it? Therein lies the beginning of your perfect life!

A simple formula may help you remember how to apply this principle:

The present
+ an attitude of gratitude
+ positive action
= my perfect life.
Try it for a day.

Each time you start dreaming about how perfect your life would be if…come back to this moment, give thanks for what is, and do one thing to perfect what you have and who you are right now. There’s a saying that “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” If you’re ready to start perfecting your life, your teachers are all around you.

What are you waiting for?

Men and Candles? Are you serious?

You might be thinking that candles are just a “woman’s business.” Honestly, I sort of thought the same thing when I started exploring our home candle business.

I thought a business that involved candles must mean hosting home parties, asking friends to host parties, and so on. Then I discovered all of the many ways to build our candle business and found out parties are just one of the many great options, for those that want to do them.

While women immediately seem to relate to this business because they love candles, I discovered it’s the fun and the simplicity that “everybody loves candles”.

Well, 9 out of 10 people loving candles is pretty much everyone to me!

What usually first attracts men, is the money. There is a lot of money to be made in this candle business, because yes, practically everybody does love candles. And because of this, men have proven to be very successful at this because they have the advantage of relating to both men and women, about candles and money.

Here’s what attracts men, (and women!) –

The candle industry is BIG business – about $3 BILLION annually in sales

Almost everyone we know has candles in their homes

Industry statistics say to get out in front of a trend; and clean burning, alternative wax candles are the latest trend in a well established industry

The biggest consumer market is women, age 44 and younger, with families

Candles are low cost, highly consumable and people associate burning them with pleasure. People will often buy what they want and what makes them feel good, before they buy what they need

Candles are purchased at about the same rate across all income levels, among all ethnic groups, and at all educational levels

Our candles are consistently rated as the best performing candles in the industry.

If, over the next 5 years we capture only 10% of that THREE BILLION dollar market we will be a $300 MILLION dollar company!

Based on those numbers, is the reason so many MEN are joining our company to cash in on this business opportunity! Industry Sources are Saying “The NEXT boom in candles will be in “Natural Wax” Candles!”

The demographics are in our favor. This information places our business in front of the bubble. We are on the ground floor of this business, like Microsoft and Apple were in the early 1980’s.

As the target candle buying market age, they will most likely continue to buy candles, as will their children. This creates an entirely new market, the babies of the “baby boom” generation.

In a world where the focus is on reducing stress, creating a healthier environment, a cleaner, nurturing home, candles made from clean burning, natural vegetable wax are a perfect fit.

Let’s Look at Recent Data on the Candle Industry

The candle industry is growing at an estimated 10% annually.

“Have you ever burned a natural wax candle?” That simple question is being repeated all over the country and is sparking interest in candle buyers everywhere.

As gourmet alternative wax candles develop recognition, the potential for this product to eventually convert a huge percentage of the current candle buying consumer gets bigger and better every day.

What if, in the next 5 years only 10% of those buyers “switched” to Gourmet candles?

The potential is huge because “word of mouth” marketing creates market demand much faster than other forms of distribution!

Imagine the income potential that that kind of growth will generate.

Do you want to be part of that growth, earning your share of the profits that are to be made?

Are you ready to get started with this GREAT opportunity?

Finding Your “One Thing”

sticking_to_it_l

Finding Your “One Thing”

In the movie City Slickers, a group of friends take a “vacation” at a dude ranch. Curley, played by Jack Palance, is a crusty yet wise old cowboy who shares the following with Mitch, played by Billy Crystal:

Curley: Do you know what the secret of life is?
Mitch: No, what?
Curley: This. (Holds up his index finger.)
Mitch: Your finger?
Curley: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and everything else don’t mean [anything].
Mitch: That’s great, but what’s the one thing?
Curley: That’s what you’ve got to figure out!

Great scene … great advice. Leaders have to figure out the One Thing that defines a meaningful purpose for their teams. The One Thing should answer the question Why are we here? You may think that finding that focus isn’t critical; but in fact, it’s essential to your success. The most important thing in business (and life) is deciding what is most important.

Your team’s One Thing might be: producing defect-free materials; providing the fastest service available; developing leading-edge products; creating relationships that customers cannot walk away from; or meeting the technology needs of other departments. These are just examples – your One Thing has to be your One Thing. And it should guide all of your decisions and actions.

Even after you find your One Thing, sticking to it can be a challenge while you put out fires and explore new opportunities. Don’t be tempted to think, as some do, that you can keep piling on initiatives and still maintain your team’s focus. You may find yourself in the middle of the “Ship is Adrift” Syndrome. Instead, consider automating, streamlining or outsourcing areas that are not core to your team’s operation.

A laser-sharp focus does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort to refine, reinforce, and communi-cate your One Thing. But you need to start now. Blurred focus creates confusion – resulting in diffused employee efforts. Stay focused! Remember Curley!

SUCCESS IS A STATE OF MIND

If you truly want to be successful, start thinking of yourself as successful.

The only thing that stands between you and what you want from life,
is simply the will to try it and the faith to believe that it is possible.

There is nothing on earth that you can’t have,
once you mentally accept the fact that you can have it.

The feeling must come first.
If you actually feel successful, if you have a deep inner conviction
that you’ll always have all that you need, it will be so.

Whatever your mind can conceive and believe in,
your mind can help you achieve.

Customer Love

Excerpted from Customer Love

The 10 phrases from my friends at Walk the Talk are an illuminating reminder of how uncomplicated it is to make customers feel loved. People don’t care how much you know, (or what you sell, or what type of service you provide) until they know how much you care!

The 10 most important words: “I apologize for our mistake. Let me make it right.” When something goes wrong, most people just want to be heard and acknowledged. So listen, apologize, then ask what you can do to make it right.

The 9 most important words: “Thank you for your business. Please come back again.”  Repeat customers cost less than new customers and are often more loyal.

The 8 most important words: “I’m not sure, but I will find out.”
It’s ok if you don’t know the answer; it’s not ok to make the customer keep searching for it. That’s your job.

The 7 most important words: “What else can I do for you?”
Be prepared to go the extra mile, there is less competition there.

The 6 most important words: “What is most convenient for you?”
Your customers will be pleasantly surprised when you ask what’s convenient for them.

The 5 most important words: “How may I serve you?”
This question reinforces your role in the relationship. Play that role the best you can.

The 4 most important words: “How did we do?”
Feedback is critical. Your customers have a unique perspective and they appreciate being asked.

The 3 most important words: “Glad you’re here!”
Customers who feel welcome spend more time, more money, and are more likely to return.

The 2 most important words: “Thank you.”
Basic manners…but how often do you get thanked when you’re the customer?

The MOST important word: “Yes.”
Become a yes person.
